Barja Grand Mosque is the principal mosque of Barja, one of the largest towns in the Chouf foothills. It is the landmark of the centre, used for Friday prayer and for the daily rhythm of a sizable Muslim community, with other mosques such as Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal serving neighbourhoods nearby. The building is contemporary civic architecture rather than a medieval foundation. Visitors should dress modestly, keep to appropriate areas and avoid entering the prayer hall during salah. The public garden and Martyrs’ Garden are the outdoor counterparts in town. On any map of mosques in the Chouf coast-and-hill belt, Barja’s grand mosque is the main entry.
