Hamra Mosque serves the Hamra district of Beirut, the neighbourhood of universities, cafés and bookshops west of downtown. It is the everyday mosque of that quarter, distinct from Qoraytem, Ain al Mreisseh and the larger mosques nearer the centre. Visitors staying in Hamra pass it on ordinary errands. Dress modestly and do not sightseeing-walk through the prayer hall at salah. Sainte Rita church is another religious landmark of the same area, and the corniche is a short walk downhill. The listing keeps Hamra’s own mosque visible in a city full of similarly named masjids.
