Guide to Al-Qal’a Mosque, Shheem

Chehime - Mosque
The citadel mosque of Chhim, Masjid al Qalaa, takes its name from the castle area of the town and is distinct from the souk mosque and Masjid al Badawi. It ties the Muslim prayer hall to the fortified upper part of Chhim, near the landscape of the Roman temple and the later castle. The building serves local worship. Dress modestly and respect prayer times. Seeing the mosque and the castle site together explains how the hill was used, not only how it was excavated. For searches, the Arabic Qalaa and the English citadel mosque should lead to this address rather than to a generic Chhim mosque.
