Welcome to Al-Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve – Barouk Cedar Forest

Barouk
The cedar forest of Barouk is a core part of the Al Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the largest protected cedar landscape in Lebanon. Ancient and regenerating Cedrus libani stand on the western ridge above Barouk village, with marked trails, picnic clearings and long views toward the Bekaa and the sea. This is the forest people mean when they search for Arz al Shouf or the Barouk cedars, as distinct from the smaller Cedar of God grove in Bsharri. Go early, stay on the path, and do not collect wood or plants. Combined with Maasser, Ain Zhalta and Beiteddine, it is the essential nature day in the Chouf.
