Chhim Castle, Qalaat Chheem, is the fortified site above Chhim in the hills of the Chouf coast. The town is better known to archaeologists for its Roman temple and village, and the castle adds a later defensive layer to that landscape of temple, presses and churches. What you come for is position: a strong point over the roads between the mountain and the sea. Masonry may be fragmentary, so read the view as carefully as the walls. Combine it with the Roman temple and the town’s mosques for a half day. It is a historic place for people who want the military topography of Chhim, not only the Roman cult site.
