Guide to Dany Chamoun Square

Deir El Qamar - Historical Places
Dany Chamoun Square, still called al Midan by many locals, is the main square of Deir el Qamar in the Chouf. It is named after Dany Chamoun, younger son of former president Camille Chamoun; both father and son were born in this town. The midan has long been the civic stage of the old capital of Mount Lebanon, framed by the Fakhreddine Mosque, palace façades and the lanes that lead to churches and serails. Sitting here is the easiest way to understand the town’s plan before walking the individual monuments. It is a natural start for any visit that also includes Marie Baz Museum, Saydet al Talleh and Beiteddine Palace a few minutes away.
