Douma is a mountain village in the Batroun district famous for red-tiled roofs, stone houses and a preserved centre that has made it one of the most photographed villages in north Lebanon. Lanes, old doors and a square give it the feel of a place that kept its nineteenth-century fabric. It works as a nature and architecture stop between Batroun on the coast and the higher road toward Tannourine. Go on a clear day, walk rather than drive the centre, and buy from local shops if they are open. Douma is not a single monument; the village is the sight. It deserves a slow hour.
