Welcome to Fortress of Niha

The Fortress of Niha, in Niha of the Chouf, is a cliff-top stronghold built into the rock above the village, also known in local memory as a hideout linked with Emir Fakhreddine. Galleries cut into the limestone, lookout points and the steep approach explain why this natural fortress mattered in the mountains long before modern roads. The views run over the Chouf valleys toward the Barouk range and the coast. The climb is the main effort: wear real shoes and avoid the edges in wet weather. Combined with Niha spring cave, the cedar reserve and Beiteddine, it is one of the most dramatic nature-and-history stops in the Shouf, closer to a hike than to a palace visit.
