Welcome to Harissa

Harissa is the sanctuary of Our Lady of Lebanon, the giant statue of the Virgin on the ridge above Jounieh, raised in the early twentieth century and reached by road or by the famous cable car from the bay. The view runs along the coast from Beirut toward Byblos, and the basilica and pilgrimage complex below the statue draw visitors in every season, especially on Marian feasts. It is both a historic religious place and the symbol of the Keserwan coast. Dress modestly, expect crowds on Sundays and combine the visit with Jounieh’s churches or the bay. For many Lebanese and for travellers, Harissa is the first pilgrimage in the country.
