Welcome to Old Presses

The old presses of Baaqline are the historic olive and grape presses scattered through one of the Chouf’s oldest Druze towns. Cut stone basins, screw presses and storage rooms show how Baakline turned its terraces into oil and arak before industrial plants. The town is also known as the birthplace associated with Emir Fakhreddine and as the home of the Hamadeh Palace and the old serail. Seeing a press up close makes the agricultural history as concrete as the palaces. The stop fits a walking tour of Baaqline’s lanes, the palace and the road onward to Deir el Qamar or Beiteddine. It is local heritage rather than a ticketed monument, which is exactly its value.
