Welcome to Shatila

The Shatila mosque serves the Shatila area of Beirut, a neighbourhood known internationally because of the 1982 massacre and known locally as a dense residential district. A mosque listing here is a place of worship for the community, and it should be approached as such: modest dress, no spectacle, and no intrusion during prayer. The area is not a tourist site. Anyone who does visit for historical awareness should come with restraint and without a camera pointed at people. Religiously, the mosque is the community’s prayer hall; historically, the place name carries a memory that does not need embellishment.
