Guide to St. Stephan’s Cathedral

Batroun - Church
St Stephen’s Cathedral is the principal historic church of Batroun’s old town, dedicated to Stephen, the first martyr. It anchors the Christian quarter a short walk from the souk, the Roman theatre and the port, and it has long been the town’s ceremonial church for feasts and processions. Stone construction and a tight urban setting are typical of the north-coast cathedrals, built and rebuilt within a living town rather than on an empty archaeological field. Visitors are welcome to look quietly between services. Combined with Our Lady of the Sea and the Phoenician wall, the cathedral completes a compact heritage walk. Search for it as Batroun cathedral or Mar Stephan when planning a north Lebanon day.
