Welcome to The Shrine of Prophet Jonah, peace be upon him
The shrine of the Prophet Jonah, Maqam al Nabi Yunis, in Jiyeh is a coastal religious stop south of Beirut associated with the prophet who, in the shared biblical and Quranic story, was cast into the sea. Local tradition links this shore with that narrative, and the maqam serves visitors who pause to pray or to acknowledge the site on the way between Beirut and Sidon. Dress modestly, remove shoes where required and avoid the prayer hall during congregational prayer if you are only sightseeing. The coast here is also known for beaches and for the old Jiyeh marina area. It is a small pilgrimage point with a clear place in Lebanon’s prophetic map.
